This diy step by step diy project is about how to build a tiered plant stand. This project is about building a wooden plant stand with two tile supports. If you want to build something easy but in the same time having a modern and exquisite look, make sure you take a look over my project. I managed to build this diy plant stand under 5 $, using common materials and tools.

You should always plan everything from the very beginning, in order to prevent costly mistakes and to save time. If this is your first project, you should read the instructions with attention. Invest in high quality lumber and plywood, as the components will be exposed to bad weather. Protect the components with appropriate paint or stain.

There are a few tips that you should take into account, if you want to get a professional result. Therefore, take accurate measurements and use professional tools when making the cuts or when drilling pilot holes. Align the components at both ends and add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to create a rigid structure.

The first step of the project is to select the tiles for the tops. I chose two rectangular tiles for each top, that describe a 10″ square.

Make sure you cut the components for the frames out of 1×2 lumber. Leave about 1/8″ around all edges as a clearance gap. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the short components, as shown in the diagram.

Use several clamps to lock the frames together. Make sure the corners are right-angled. Insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock the components together tightly. Add waterproof glue to the joints.

Next, fit the frames around the tiles. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 1×2 supports. Attach the supports to the back of the tiles, as shown in the image. Insert 1 1/4″ screws to secure the supports to the frames, as shown in the diagram.

After you turn the frames upside down, they should look similar to this one. Repeat the process for the other plant stand frame, using the same instructions described above.

Attaching the 1×2 legs to the top and bottom frames is a tricky step, as it require accurate measurements. Mark the middle to the top of the legs and to the four sides of the frames. Then, align the marks with great care.

After assembling all the components together, the two tier plant stand looks quite interesting. Smooth the components with 120-200 grit sandpaper.
