This step by step diy woodworking project is about entertainment center plans. If you want to learn how to build a nice storage tv stand with two doors, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions described in the article and to check out the related projects. There are many storage projects featured on our site, so don’t be afraid to browse through the rest of the woodworking plans. Take a look on the part two of the project to see how to build the side towers.
Before starting the actual construction project, we recommend you to plan everything, as to save money and to keep the costs under control. Adjust the size and the design of the media center to suit your needs. In addition, we recommend you to invest in high-quality materials, such as pine, redwood or cedar, as they have a nice finish and are highly durable, especially in a humid environment.
It is essential to invest in high quality materials, that are also water-resistant, such as pressure-treated lumber. Cut the components at the right size by using a circular saw and smooth the cut edges with a sand block. Don’t forget to ask a skilled friend to assist you during the project, especially if you don’t have a large expertise in the field. You need someone to hold the components into place, while you drive the screws in.

Building an entertainment center
Â
First of all, you need to build the sides of the entertainment center. Therefore, build the legs out of 2×2 lumber and the panels out of 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes along the side edges and secure it to the legs using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.
Â
Â
Fit 1×2 trims to the exterior of the sides to enhance the look of the media center. Secure the trims to the sides using brad nails and glue.
Â
Â
Build the shelves of the media center out of 3/4″ plywood and smooth the edges using fine-grit sandpaper. Drill pocket holes along the four edges of the components and fit them between the sides of the structure. Check if the corners are square and insert 1 1/4″ screws to secure the components together tightly. Add glue to the joint and remove the excess with a damp cloth.
Â
Â
Fit the 2×2 legs and the 2×2 trims to the structure, as described in the diagram. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and secure them to the legs and to the sides by using 2 1/2″ screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.
Â
Â
Next, fit the 1×2 trims to the top of the structure, as described in the diagram. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the structure by using 1 1/4″ screws. Make sure the corners are square before inserting the screws.
Â
Â
Build the partitions out of 3/4″ plywood and drill pocket holes along the four edges. Fit the partitions to the structure and secure them to the frame by using 1 1/4″ screws and glue.
Â
Â
Build the back of the media center out of 1/4″ plywood. Attach the plywood sheet to the structure and secure it into place by using finishing nails and glue. Leave no gaps between the components and smooth the edges.
Â
Â
Build the top of the entertainment center using the information in the diagram. Build the frame out of 1×3 trims and the panel out of 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes along the four of the panel and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the trims. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.
Â
Â
Center the media center to the tabletop as described in the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the supports of the media center and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the tabletop. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.
Â
Â
Build the frame of the doors out of 1×3 lumber. Cut the components at the right size and smooth the cut ends. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the vertical components. Add glue to the joints and use a router to make 1/4″ x 1/4″ rabbets on the interior face of the door, as described in the diagram.
Â
Â
Fit a piece of 1/4″ glass to the door and lock it into place using clips.
Â
Â
Fit the doors to the entertainment center and secure them to the sides using appropriate hinges. Fit handles to the doors to open and close them easily. Select a design that matches the style of the rest of the furniture.
Â
Â
