Building the supports

Building the supports

First of all, we recommend you to build the supports for the plat stand. Therefore, you need to build the components out of 1×2 lumber. Smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper and drill pocket holes at one end of the short components. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth. Make sure the corners are square and the edges perfectly flush.

Attaching the legs

Attaching the legs

Build the legs for the plant stand out of 1×2 lumber. Cut the legs at the right size and smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper. Make sure you round the top of the legs with a circular saw, to create a decorative effect. Next, drill pilot holes through the legs and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the supports. Alternatively, you could drill pocket holes and inset 1 1/4″ screws. Plumb the legs with a spirit level and check if the corners are square using a carpentry square. Adjust the height at which you place the supports before inserting the screws.

Fitting the other legs

Continue the project by fitting the rest of the legs to the structure, as described in the diagram. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the indoor plant stand.
