This step by step diy woodworking project is about garage cabinets plans. If you don’t have a rich expertise in woodworking field, you should ask a friend to give you a hand with the project. There are many things that you could go wrong, so make sure you plan everything and invest in quality materials. Materials

  • A – 4 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 10″ x 29 1/2 long, 2 pieces – 10″ x 11 1/2″ long FRAME
  • B – 6 pieces of 1/4″ plywood – 9 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ long SHELVES
  • C – 1 piece of 3/4″ plywood – 11 1/2″ x 31″ long DOOR

  • 1 piece of 3/4″ plywood – 4’x8′
  • 1 piece of 1/4″ plywood – 4’x4′
  • 1 1/4″ screws

Tools

  • Safety gloves, glasses, Miter saw, jigsaw
  • Chalk line, tape measure, spirit level, carpentry pencil
  • Drill machinery and drill bits

Tips

  • Apply several coats of wood stain to the wooden components
  • Fill the holes with wood filler and smooth the surface

First of all, you need to build the frame of the garage cabinet out of 3/4″ plywood. After cutting the four components, you need to make 1×4″ x 1/4″ grooves on the interior faces. Use a table saw to make the channels.

The next step of the project is to assemble the frame of the cabinet. Drill pilot holes through the sides and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the back of the cabinet. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square.

Cut the top and the bottom components out of 3/4″ plywood and attach them to the structure. Make sure the edges are flush and insert  1 1/4″ screws to create a rigid structure. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.

The next step of the project is to fit the shelves to the cabinet. Cut the shelves out of 1/4″ plywood and slide them inside the grooves.

If you want to protect your tools, you could attach 3/4″ plywood doors to the cabinets, as described in the diagram. Use appropriate hinges and make sure the door opens and closes properly.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the wood garage cabinet.
