Building a storage table
Â
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the table. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to build the legs and the aprons out of 2×4 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the aprons and inser 2 1/2″ screws into the legs. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square.
Â
Â
The next step of the project is to assemble the storage table. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to secure the sides together by fitting 2×4 aprons. Cut the components at the right size and smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper. Drill pocket at both ends of the aprons and secure them to the sides using 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are square and add glue to the joints.
Â
Â
Fit the 2×4 stretcher to the middle of the frame and lock it to the structure using 2 1/2″ screws. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the stretcher and insert the screws after aligning the edges and after making sure the corners are square.
Â
Â
Lay the 2×4 slats for the tabletop on a level surface and lock them together with glue and with 2 1/2″ pocket screws. Center the frame to the tabletop and drill pocket holes through the aprons. Add glue to the joints and insert 2 1/2″ screws through the pocket holes to create a rigid structure.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
