Pig House Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about free pig house plans. I have designed this 8×10 lean to shelter so you can protect the pigs from harsh weather and from excessive sunlight. This shelter can be easily scaled up or down, so it suits your needs. This shelter can be easily moved from one location to another, using a tractor. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Building a pig house

Materials

• A – 2 pieces of 4×4 lumber – 96″ long, 2 pieces – 120″ long BASE
• B – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 120″ long, 8 pieces – 57″ long FRONT WALL
• C – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 120″ long, 8 pieces – 32 1/4″ long BACK WALL
• D – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 89″ long, 5 pieces – 32 1/4″ long 2xSIDE WALL
• F – 2 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 36″x60″ long, 2 pieces – 48″x35 1/4″ long, 1 piece – 24″x35 1/2″ long SIDING

• 4 pieces of 4×4 lumber – 10′
• 4 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 10′
• 17 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 6′
• 6 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 8′
• 3 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 4’x8′
• 3 1/2″ screws, 1 1/4″ screws

How to build a pig house

Building the base beams

The first step of the project is to build the base for the pig house. Therefore, you need to use 4×4 beams for the base. Make notches to both ends of the beams, using the information from the diagram. Use a saw to make the notches and then smooth the surface with sandpaper.

Building the base of the shelter

Assemble the base for the pig shelter, aligning the edges with attention. Make sure the corners are square. Drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock the joints tight.

Building the side walls

Continue the project by assembling the side walls for the pig house. Cut the components at the right dimensions and then drill pilot holes through the plates. Insert 3 1/2″ screws into the studs. Make sure you space the studs as shown in the diagram, otherwise the siding sheets won’t fall on the right studs.

Building the back wall frame

Assemble the back wall for the pig shelter from 2×4 lumber, as well. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the studs. Place the studs equally spaced, every 24″ on center. In addition, double the studs that are placed at both ends of the wall.

Building the front wall frame

You need to assemble the front wall for the pig house from 2×4 lumber. You can adjust the size of the opening to suit your needs. Remember that you can easily scale up or down this shelter, according to the number of pigs you plan on raising.

Assembling the pig house

Fit the wall frames to the top of the base. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the base. In addition, you need to lock the adjacent walls together with 2 1/2″ screws. Drill pilot holes and insert the screws, so you lock the adjacent walls together tightly.

Front wall siding

Attach T1-11 siding sheets to the front wall of the pig house. Cut the sheets to the right dimensions, align the edges and then secure them into place with 6-8d nails.

Back wall siding

Attach the T1-11 siding panels to the back wall of the pig shelter. Align the edges and lock them to the studs with 6-8d nails. Leave no gaps between the sheets and insert the nails every 8″ along the framing.
