How to make a coffee table
Â
The first step of the project is to build the legs of the coffee table. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to cut both ends of the 2×3 legs at 60 degrees, by using a nice miter saw. Continue the project by making the 90-degree cuts to the top of the legs. Smooth the edges with sandpaper, as to make sure the surface is perfectly clean and even.
Â
Â
The next step of the project is to fit the supports between the wooden legs, in order to create a rigid structure for the coffee table. Work with attention and cut both ends of the bottom supports at 60 degrees before locking them into place with galvanized screws. Attach the 1×3 tabletop supports to the V-shaped legs and secure it into place with galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints in order to create a rigid structure.
Â
Â
Cut the bottom shelf out of 3/4″ plywood and secure it into place with galvanized screws. Smooth the edges of the plywood sheet and secure it into place tightly. Drill pocket holes through the bottom supports and insert screws into the bottom shelf.
Â
Â
Building the tabletop is a straight-forward process, so make sure you pay attention to the instructions. Cut the tabletop at the right size and reinforce the plywood sheet with the 1×2 frame. Drill pocket holes through the frame and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the tabletop. Add waterproof glue to the joints in order to create a rigid structure.
Â
Â
Attach the frame of the coffee table over the tabletop, drill pilot holes through the supports and insert screws into the tabletop. Add waterproof glue to the joints in order to create a rigid structure.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
