Before starting the actual construction project, we recommend you to plan everything, as to save money and to keep the costs under control. Adjust the size and the design of the media center to suit your needs. In addition, we recommend you to invest in high-quality materials, such as pine, redwood or cedar, as they have a nice finish and are highly durable, especially in a humid environment.
It is essential to invest in high quality materials, that are also water-resistant, such as pressure-treated lumber. Cut the components at the right size by using a circular saw and smooth the cut edges with a sand block. Don’t forget to ask a skilled friend to assist you during the project, especially if you don’t have a large expertise in the field. You need someone to hold the components into place, while you drive the screws in.

Building an entertainment center

Building the storage shelves
First of all, we recommend you to build the storage shelves for the corner entertainment center. Build the components out of 3/4″ plywood using the information from the diagram. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and secure them to the vertical partitions using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square.

Fitting the shelves
Next, build the shelves for the media console. Mark the cut lines on the 3/4″ plywood sheet and get the job done using a circular saw. Smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper and remove the excess with a damp cloth. Align the edges with attention and drill pilot holes through the components before inserting 1 1/4″ finishing nails into the partitions. Add glue to the joints to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

Fitting the sides
Continue the project by fitting the 1×6 legs to the structure, as in the diagram. Drill pocket holes along the sides of the shelves and secure them to the legs by using 1 1/4′ screws and glue. Make sure the corners are square and leave no gaps between the components.

Fitting the legs
Next, fit the 1×2 legs to the back of the structure, as described in the diagram. Drill pilot holes and insert finishing nails into the structure. Make sure the corners are square and leave no gaps between the components.

Attaching the back
Build the back of the media center out of 1/4″ plywood. Cut the sheets at the right size and secure them to the structure by using brad nails and glue. Leave no gaps between the components and remove the excess with a damp cloth.

Installing the baseboard
Fit a 1×6 trim to the bottom of the corner media center. Use finishing nails and glue to lock the trim into place tightly.

Fitting the trims
Build the trims out of 1×2 lumber. Cut the components at the right size and secure them to the structure using 1 1/2″ finishing nails. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal trims and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the vertical components.

Building the door frames
Build the doors for the corner media center out of 1×3 lumber. Cut the components at the right size and smooth the cut ends. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the vertical components. Add glue to the joints and use a router to make 1/4″ x 1/4″ rabbets on the interior face of the door, as described in the diagram.

Fitting the glass
Fit a piece of 1/4″ glass to the door and lock it into place using clips.

Fitting the doors
Fit the doors to the opening and secure them to the sides of the frame using appropriate hinges. Leave 1/8″ around the doors and check if they open and close easily. Fit handles to the doors, making sure the design matches the style of the rest of the furniture.

Attaching the tabletop
Build the tabletop out of 1×3 slats. Cut the slats at the right dimensions and fit them to the top of the structure. Use glue and finishing nails to lock the slats into place tightly.

Hello,
I love this design. However, I think it’s just a touch too larger for the corner I need it in. Is there an easy way to convert this plan to where the front is only 45″ wide?
Thanks!
Jeff,
You can scale the dimensions linear wise down and adjust the features impacted accordingly.
