This step by step diy woodworking project is about bar stool plans. Materials

  • A – 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 29 1/2″long, 2 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 44″ long LEGS
  • B – 4 pieces of 1×3 lumber – 16″ long FRAME
  • C – 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 16″ long, 2 pieces – 18 3/4″ long BRACES
  • D – 4 pieces of 1×3 lumber – 16″ long BACKREST
  • E – 1 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 19″x18 1/4″ long SEAT

  • 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 8 ft
  • 2 pieces of 1×3 lumber – 8 ft
  • 1 piece of 2×6 lumber – 8 ft
  • 1 piece of 3/4″ plywood – 2’x2′
  • 2 1/2″ screws
  • 1 1/4″ screws
  • glue, stain
  • wood filler

Tools

  • Safety gloves, glasses
  • Miter saw, jigsaw
  • Chalk line, tape measure, spirit level, carpentry pencil
  • Drill machinery and drill bits

Tips

  • Apply several coats of wood stain to the wooden components
  • Fill the holes with wood filler and smooth the surface

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the bar stool back legs. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to mark the cut lines to the 2×6 slats, making sure the dimensions and the lines are accurate. Smooth the edges with sandpaper in order to get a professional result.

Next, you need to build the frame of the bar stool. Cut several 1×3 pieces of lumber at 16 degrees and drill pocket holes at both ends. Attach the slats to the front and back legs after making sure they are aligned with attention and the corners are right-angled. add waterproof glue to the joints in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

Attach the supports to the bottom of the stool as shown in the diagram. Cut the components at the right size and secure them to the legs with 2 1/2″ galvanized screws. Make sure the corners are right-angled and drill pocket holes before inserting the screws.

Attaching the slats to the backrest is a straight-forward process, as you just need to cut the slats at the right size. Drill pocket holes at both slats and secure them to the legs with 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and make sure they are flush with the faces of the legs.

Cut the 3/4″ plywood at the right size and make the notches as to fit around the back legs. Drill pocket holes through the seat frame and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the seat.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the bar stool.
