This step by step woodworking project is about garden wishing well plans. If you want to add more unique appeal to your backyard and you don’t want to invest a great amount of money in the project, I recommend you to consider making a decorative wishing well. With common materials and tools you can build this project in one weekend. My plans come with step by step instructions and you can easily adjust all the dimensions to suit your needs. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

How to build a wooden wishing well

building-the-sides

Building-the-sides

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides for the wishing well box. Therefore, you should cut the legs and the slats from 1×4 lumber. Lay the legs on a level surface and then attach the slats for the box. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws so you can secure them into place tightly.

Assemble the other sides for the wishing well from 1×4 lumber, using the same techniques described above.

After building the four sides for the box, you need to lock them together tightly. Make sure you leave no gaps between the components and you should also check if the corners are right-angled. Use screws to secure the adjacent walls together tightly.

Fitting-the-trims

Fit 1×4 trims to the top of the box. As you can easily notice in the plans, you need to make 45 degree cuts to both ends of the trims. Fit the trims to the box and secure them into place with brad nails.

Building-the-stakes

Build the stakes for the wishing well from 1×4 slats. Cut the top of the slats at 45 degrees. In addition, you need to use a hole saw drill bit to cut out a hole for the spindle. You can adjust the position for the hole, according to your needs.
