How to build a mini greenhouse

Building the frames

Building the frames

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frames for the mini-greenhouse box. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to drill pocket holes at both ends of the short 1×1 components and to secure them to the perpendicular components using 1 1/4″ screws.

Smart Tip: Make sure the corners are square and add glue to the joints.

Assembling the box

Assembling the box

After building the two frames, you need to assemble the box by fitting the vertical supports. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the frames using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are right-angled.

Building the rafters

Building the rafters

Build the rafters for the greenhouse out of 1×1 lumber. Cut both ends of the components at 45 degrees and lock them together with 1 1/4″ screws. Pre-drill the components before inserting the screws to prevent the wood from splitting.

Building the lid base

Next, build another frame for the base of the lid. Align the edges with attention and check if the corners are square.

Assembling the lid

Assembling the lid

Continue the project by assembling the lid for the mini-greenhouse. Drill pilot holes through the rafters and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the base of the lid. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the top ridge and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the rafters.

Attaching the lid

Fit the lid to the wooden box and lock it into place using two hinges. Before attaching the hinges, you need to cover the structure with vinyl sheets. Use hot glue or staples to lock the sheets to the frame of the greenhouse.
