How to build a deer stand

How to build a deer stand

Building the floor frame

The first step of the project is to build the floor frame for the deer stand. As you can easily notice in the diagram, you need to build the components out of 2×4 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the side components and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Make sure the corners are right-angled and add glue to the joints for a better bond.

Fitting the floor panel

Next, attach a piece of 3/4″ plywood to the frame of the floor. Align the edges with great care and secure the sheet to the frame using 1 1/4 ” screws. Make sure the edges are flush before inserting the screws.

Building the exterior walls of the deer stand

Continue the project by building the exterior walls of the deer stand. As you can easily notice in the free plans, you need to mark the cut lines on 3/4″ plywood sheets. Use a circular saw to make the cuts and smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper for a professional result. Drill starting holes and use a jigsaw to make the openings.

Building the front panel

Next, you need to build the wall frames and attach them to the plywood panels. Build the studs out of 2×4 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the vertical components. Attach the frame to the panel and insert finishing nails to lock them together tightly.

Building the side walls

Building the side walls requires more attention, as you need to make angle cuts. Cut the top of the vertical studs at 80 degrees. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the vertical studs. Make sure the corners are square and leave no gaps between components.

Building the back wall

Build the frame for the back wall. Assemble the components and secure it to the plywood panel using finishing nails. Add glue to the joints and leave no gaps between the frame and the panel.

Assembling the frame of the deer blind

After building the walls, we recommend you to assemble everything together. Align the edges with attention, making sure the corners are square and the edges flush. Leave no gaps between the components and lock the wall together by inserting 2 1/2″ screws.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. In order to get a professional result, fill the holes and the gaps with wood filler and let it dry out for a few hours. Check if there are protruding screws and fix this issue, if necessary.
