Deer feeder plans

Building the frame

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the deer feeder. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to assemble the frame out of 2×6 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the side components and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the 22 1/2″ components. Make sure the corners are right-angled.

Fitting the legs

Continue the project by attaching the 4×4 legs to the frame of the deer feeder. Drill pilot holes through the frame and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the legs. Make sure the legs are plumb and check if the corners are right-angled. Dig 20″ deep holes and secure the legs into the ground properly.

Fitting the cleats

Continue the project by attaching the 2×2 cleats to the interior of the frame. Drill pilot holes through the cleats and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the frame of the deer feeder.

Fitting the floor

Next, you need to attach a piece of 3/4″ plywood to the cleats. Smooth the edges and make sure there are no gaps between the components.

Building the supports

Build the vertical supports out of 2×4 lumber. Cut the top of the supports at 45 degrees, on both sides. Center the supports to the sides of the structure, plumb them with a spirit level. drill pilot holes and lock them into place using 2 1/2″ screws. Add glue to the joints and leave no gaps between the components.

Building the rafters

Next, you need to attach the rafters to the vertical supports. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to cut the ends of the components at 45 degrees. Drill pilot holes and secure the rafters together tightly using 2 1/2″ screws. In addition, drill pilot holes and secure the rafters to the supports with 2 1/2″ screws.

Attaching the roofing sheets

Build the roofing sheets out of 3/4″ plywood. Attach the sheets to the rafters and align all edges with great attention. Drill pilot holes through the sheets and insert galvanized nails to lock everything together tightly.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. In order to get a professional result, fill the holes and the gaps with wood filler and let it dry out for a few hours. Check if there are protruding screws and fix this issue, if necessary.
