Park Bench Plans
Â
The first step of the project is to build the supports for the bench. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut the components out of 2×4 lumber, making sure you take accurate measurements. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and secure them to the vertical components. Make sure the corners are right-angled and add glue to the joints.
Â
Â
The next step of the project is to fit the diagonal components to the supports. As you can easily notice in the project, we recommend you to make angle cuts at both ends of the components. Drill pilot holes through the supports and insert screws into the rectangular supports.
Â
Â
Next, you need to fit the rest of the X-shaped components to the bench supports. Cut the end that joins the other diagonal at 75 degrees. Drill pilot holes through the supports and secure them into place. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.
Â
Â
Lay the 2×6 boards on a level surface and make sure there are no gaps between them. Center the supports over the slats, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the seat slats.
Â
Â
Last but not least, you need to take care of the final touches. Therefore, you need fill all the holes with a good filler and let the compound to dry out properly, before sanding the wooden surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
