We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Building a firewood shed
Materials
- G – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 17 1/2″ long, 1 piece of 2×4 lumber – 96″ long TOP RIDGE
- H – 8 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 35 1/4″ long RAFTERS
- I – 8 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 96″ long SUPPORTS
- J – 5o sq ft of roofing sheets ROOF SHEETS
- 8 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 8′
- 6 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 8′
- 5o sq ft of roofing sheets
- 8d nails, 1 5/8″ screws, 2 1/2″ screws, 3 1/2″ screws
- wood filler , wood glue, stain/paint
Tools
- Safety gloves, glasses
- Miter saw, jigsaw
- Chalk line, tape measure, spirit level, carpentry pencil
- Drill machinery and drill bits

How to build a gable roof for a firewood shed
Ridge beam supports
Build the supports for the ridge beam from 2×4 lumber. Use a saw to make the cuts to the boards.
Fitting the ridge beam
Fit the 2×4 ridge beam to the top of the supports. Center the beam into place and then align the edges. Drill pilot holes and insert screws to lock it into place tightly.
Building the rafters
Build the rafters from 2×4 lumber. Make a 30 degree cut to one end of the rafters.
Fitting the rafters
Fit the rafters to the top of the shed. Place the rafters equally spaced and then lock them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.
Fitting the roof slats
Fit 1×4 slats to the top of the shed, so you can attach the polycarbonate into place. Use 1 5/8″ screws to lock the slats to the rafters.
Roof sheets
Fit the polycarbonate sheets to the roof of the shed with appropriate screws.
