Building the sides

Building the sides

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the play table. As you can notice in the diagram, we recommend you to build the legs and the top support out of 2×2 lumber, while the brace should be built out of 1×3 lumber. Cut the ends at 80 degrees by using a proper saw. Smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth.

Drill pocket holes at the top of the legs and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the top support. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the brace and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the legs. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.

Next, you have to lock the two sides of the table together, by using 2×2 supports. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the supports and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the sides to create rigid joints. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square.
