Small Garden Shed Door and Trims Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about small garden shed door and trims plans. This is PART 3 of the 6×8 garden shed project, where I show you how to build the door and how to attach the trims to the shed. Check out the local building codes, so you comply with the legal requirements when selecting the location and when building the shed. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a small shed door, stairs and trims

Fitting the door jambs

Fitting the door jambs

The first step of the project is to build the door jambs. Cut the components from 1×4 lumber and attach them around the door opening. Make sure the edges are flush and use 1 5/8″ screws to lock them into place tightly.

Building the door

Building the door

The next step is to build the door for the small garden shed. Use the panel that you have cut out in the previous step. Use 1×4 lumber for the door trims. Cut the trims at the right dimensions and then lay them over the door panel. Align the edges flush, drill pilot holes and insert 1 1/4″ nails to lock everything together tightly. Add glue to the joints for a proper bond between the trims and the door panels.
