Outdoor Firewood Shed Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about outdoor firewood shed plans. I have designed this really simple firewood shed so you can store the wood and boost up the drying process. This shed has a nice gable roof. Remember that you need to read the local building codes before selecting the right location for the shed and before building the shed. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. PDF downloadable plans with premium features in the Store.

How to build an outdoor firewood shed

Building the floor frame

Building the floor frame

The first step of the project is to build the floor frame for the shed. Cut the joists from 2×6 lumber, after taking accurate measurements. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush.

Fitting the skids

Fitting the skids

Fit 4×4 skids under the floor frame, so you can protect it from moisture. Use rafter ties to lock the skids to the floor frame.

Fitting the floor slats

Fitting the floor slats

Fit 2×4 boards over the floor frame. Align the edges with attention and fit a nail between the boards, so you can create even gaps. Drill pilot holes before inserting the 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place.

Building the top frame

Building the top frame

Build the top frame for the firewood shed from 2×4 lumber. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock the frame together tightly. Make sure the corners are square.

Assembling the frame of the shed

Lock the top frame to the base with supports. The orange components are 2×3 lumber and the blue components are 2×4 lumber. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly.

Side slats

Side slats

Fit 1×6 slats to the sides of the firewood shed. Cut the slats at the right dimensions and then lock them into place with 1 5/8″ screws.
