This step by step woodworking project is about 6 foot picnic table plans. I have designed this small picnic table so you can get the job done in one weekend, using just 2x4s and 2x6s. This is the ideal woodworking project to start with, as it only requires basic tools and materials. Follow my instructions and tips, so you get the job done quickly and without no problems. We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Building a 6 foot picnic table
Materials
- A – 4 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 36″ long LEGS
- B – 3 piece of 2×4 lumber – 28 1/2″ long SUPPORTS
- C – 2 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 60″ long SUPPORTS
- D – 5 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 72″ long TABLETOP
- E – 4 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 72″ long SEAT
- F – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 34 1/2″ long BRACES
- 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 8′
- 13 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 6′
- 3 1/2″ carriage bolts
- 2 1/2″ pocket screws

How to build a 6′ picnic table
Building the legs
Start the woodworking project by framing the legs for the picnic table. Make 30 degree cuts to both ends of the legs, as shown in the diagram. Smooth the edges with sandpaper for a professional result.
Pocket holes
Drill pocket holes through the tabletop supports. Drill two pocket holes for each slat.
Building the tabletop
Fit the supports to the 2×6 tabletop beams. Place a piece of 1/4″ plywood between the beams to create even gaps. Use 2 1/2″ screws to lock the supports into place.
Fitting the legs
Fit the legs to the frame of the table. Drill pilot holes through the legs and through the supports. Insert 3 1/2″ carriage bolts to lock the components together tightly.
Fitting the seat supports
Fit the seat supports to the legs of the picnic table. Clamp the beams to the legs after making sure they are perfectly horizontal. Drill pilot holes through the beams and through the legs. Insert 3 1/2″ carriage bolts to lock the components together tightly.
Building the diagonal braces
Make 2×4 braces for the 6 foot picnic table. By adding these diagonal braces to the table, they will really make the structure really rigid. Use a good miter saw to make the angle cuts to both ends of the braces.
Fitting the diagonal braces
Center the diagonals into place and then drill pilot holes. Insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock the braces into place tightly.

Smooth the edges with sandpaper. Moreover, you could use a router to round over the exposed edges.

This 6 foot picnic table is super easy to build and it will add value to your garden. This table with benches would go perfectly near a bbq. Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper.
