Small Farmhouse Table Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about small farmhouse table plans. This is a super simple small end table that you can use both indoor and outdoor. The farmhouse design makes it a smart choice if you have a rustic theme decorated home. I hope you will enjoy my tutorial as much as I did making it! You can adjust the size of the table and even cut out a hole in the tabletop for an umbrella. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Build a farmhouse small table

Building the sides

Building the sides

The first step of the project is to build the sides for the small side table. Cut the components at the right dimensions. Use 2×4 lumber for the base and for the vertical leg and 1×4 lumber for the top support. Drill pilot holes through the horizontal components and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the vertical leg, making sure the edges are flush and everything is centered properly. In addition, make sure the corners are square.

Fitting the X-shaped braces

Next, build the X-shaped braces for the sides of the table from 2×4 lumber. Cut both ends of the braces at 45 degrees and secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.

Fitting the small legs

Cut small 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ pieces of the table and secure them to the bottom of the bases with 1 1/2″ brad nails and glue.

Fitting the stretcher

Build the stretcher for the small farmhouse table from 2×4 lumber. Drill pilot holes at both ends and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the legs. Make sure the corners are square and add glue to the joints.

Building the tabletop

Build the tabletop from 2×4 lumber. Cut the components at 24″ and then lock them together with glue and 2 1/2″ pocket screws. If you want, you can use just glue, provided you clamp the tabletop tightly.

Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Cover the components with a few coats of paint or stain to enhance the look and to protect the components from decay.
