This step by step diy woodworking project is about small entertainment center plans. Before starting the actual construction project, we recommend you to plan everything, as to save money and to keep the costs under control. Adjust the size and the design of the media center to suit your needs. In addition, we recommend you to invest in high-quality materials, such as pine, redwood or cedar, as they have a nice finish and are highly durable, especially in a humid environment.
It is essential to invest in high quality materials, that are also water-resistant, such as pressure-treated lumber. Cut the components at the right size by using a circular saw and smooth the cut edges with a sand block. Don’t forget to ask a skilled friend to assist you during the project, especially if you don’t have a large expertise in the field. Building a small entertainment center
Building the sides for the entertainment center
The first step of the project is to build the sides of the small entertainment center. In order to get a professional manner, we recommend you to build the base out of 2×4 lumber. Cut the ends at 45 degrees and attach 1×4 pieces under the supports. Build the vertical components out of 2×4 lumber and cut the top ends at 45 degrees. Drill pocket holes at one end of the supports and secure them to the base using 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are square and add glue to the joints.
Fitting the supports
Continue the project by fitting the top trim to the sides (2×4 lumber). Drill pocket holes at both ends of the trim and secure it to the legs by using 2 1/2″ screws. In addition, fit 2×2 supports to sides of the media center. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the legs by using 2 1/2″ screws.
Building the shelves
Next, fit the 3/4″ plywood shelves to lock the two sides of the media center together. Drill pocket holes along the four edges of the shelves and secure them to the supports by using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth. Afterwards, attach 2×2 trims to the front and back of the media center.
Building the drawer frame
Build the top and bottom components for the frame of the storage area using the information described in the diagram. Use 3/4″ plywood for the components and make notches to the four corners by using a circular saw. Smooth the edges with sandpaper and remove the excess with a damp cloth.

Fit the components to the structure, drill pilot holes along the sides and secure them to the legs by using 1 1/4″ screws.
Fitting the side components
Build the ends for the storage area out of 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes along the four edges, align the edges and secure them into place by using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess using a damp cloth.
Attaching the back
Build the back for the storage area out of 3/4″ plywood and drill pocket holes along the dour edges. Fit the component to the structure and secure it into place by using 1 1/4″ screws and glue. Make sure the edges are flush and leave no gaps between the components.
Fitting the partitions
Build the partitions out of 3/4″ plywood (13 1/2″ x 6 1/2″) and fit them to the structure, as in the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the bottom and top components before driving finishing nails into the partitions. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square.
Building the drawer
Build the components of the drawer out of 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes along the edges of the bottom and insert 1 1/4″ screws to create rigid bonds.
Attaching the front face
Attach the front face to the drawer, making sure you leave 3/8″ on both sides. Secure the component to the drawer by using finishing nails and glue. Check if the corners are square before inserting the nails.
Fitting the drawer
Fit the drawer to the middle opening and secure it to the sides using appropriate slides. Build the front face out of 3/4″ plywood and secure it to the drawer as described above. Leave 1/8″ around the drawer faces and install a handle to get a professional result.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. If you want to enhance the storage space, you could make a few items.
