How to build a kitchen table
Building the frame of the table
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the kitchen table. As you can see in the plans, we recommend you to use 2×4 lumber and to assemble the components tightly by using pocket screws. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the aprons and insert the 2 1/2″ screws into the legs, after adding glue and checking if the corners are right-angled.
Building the frame of the table
Continue the project by attaching the side aprons to the components. Use a good spirit level to check if the legs are perfectly plumb and if the aprons are horizontal. In addition, the corners should be perfectly square before locking the aprons to the framing with galvanized screws.
Fitting the tabletop supports
The next step of the project is to fit the tabletop supports between the both sides of the frame, as shown in the plans. Cut the supports at the right size and lock them between the aprons with screws. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and insert the screws into the aprons, after placing them equally spaced.
Attaching the tabletop
In order to lock the tabletop components in a professional manner, we recommend you to pay attention to these instructions. First of all, we recommend you to lock the 2×6 slats together by using pocket holes. Drill pilot holes along the edges of the slats and insert the screws after adding wood glue to the joints.
How to build a kitchen table
Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, you need to install the end slats to the tabletop of the kitchen table, as shown in the plans. Afterwards, check if all the components are locked into place properly and make adjustments if necessary. Smooth the exposed edges and the wooden surfaces with 120-grit sandpaper, along the wood grain.
