Large Chicken Coop Nesting Boxes Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about free large chicken coop roof plans. This is PART 4 of the 8×10 chicken coop project, where I show you how to build the nesting boxes. The nesting boxes are attached to the exterior of the coop and they have lots of partitions. Moreover, you need to take a look over the rest of my coop plans and projects HERE. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building nesting boxes for a large coop

Nest box floor frame

Nest box floor frame

The first step of the project is to build the base for the nesting boxes. Therefore, you need to use 2×4 lumber for the floor frame and 4×4 lumber for the legs. Drill pilot holes through the 120″ long components and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush. Fit the legs to the frame and then insert 3 1/2″ screws through the frame into the legs, to lock everything together tightly.

Attach a piece of 3/4″ plywood over the floor frame. Align the edges flush, drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock the sheet into place tightly.

Bottom partitions

Build the partitions for the bottom nesting boxes from 2×4 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the vertical supports and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the top and bottom supports. Align the edges and make sure the corners are square. Attach a piece of 1/2″ plywood to the frames and insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock it into place tightly.
