Building the faces

Building the side components

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the side components of the small toy box. Mark the cut lines on the 3/4″ plywood sheets and get the job done using a proper circular saw. Smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper. Make holes for the handles if you want to transport the box from one place to another easily.

Next, build the faces for the toy box and attach them to the sides. Align the edges with attention until they are flush. Drill pocket holes along the vertical edges of the side components and secure them to the perpendicular components using 1 1/4″ screws and glue. Make sure the corners are square and add glue to the joints.

Attaching the bottom

Build the bottom out of 3/4″ plywood. Cut the component out of 3/4″ plywood and drill pocket holes along the four edges. Fit the component to the box and secure it to the side walls using 1 1/4″ screws and glue. Make sure the corners are square and leave no gaps.

Fitting the corner supports

Fit the 2×2 supports to the corners and secure them into place using 2″ screws and glue. The corner supports will reinforce the structure of the box.

Attaching the lid

Attaching the lid

Building the lid for the toy box is easy. Build the support out of 1×4 lumber and secure it to the structure by using finishing nails and glue. Then, cut the lid out of 3/4″ plywood and secure it to the support by using a piano hinge.
